Frequently Asked Questions...

Want to make a booking? So how does it all work then? Below you will find the answers to some of the more comonly asked questions. Don't see what you want to know? Drop me an email; I'd be glad to answer any questions you have!

How does it work?

I have a variety of African hand drums (djembes, djun djuns and other small drums) and percussion instruments (including wood blocks, bells and shakers).

I gather these instruments into my car and come to your group. I will come in early to set up the room. This means putting out chairs in a circle, setting up instruments and assessing potential noise levels.

Drum circles can be run in a variety of different ways. They can be structured to meet predefined learning outcomes (to work for example on communication skills, team work and cooperation etc,), they can be used for meditation and healing and they can be used just for fun. I have run circles so far for disability groups, youth groups and parents with small children.

What does the facilitator do?

The job of the drum circle facilitator is to keep the group playing together, to encourage them and to help them reach new places in their music. This is accomplished through the use of games and metaphor.

How long does it take?

Sessions can run for any length of time, from an hour to a full day. Those who are new to drumming will find that their hands get sore much faster than those who have been at it for awhile, therefore a 1 hour sessions to start with is recommended.

Who can do it?

Anyone can drum. We have worked with people with sight loss, hearing impairment, reduced mobility and intellectual disability. We have also run circles with able- bodied individuals young and old. There is no age limit. They key to the experience is letting the individual figure out how to make their own sound.

How much does it cost?

In the current economic climate, affordability is in important factor for many groups. I do my best to find mutually workable agreements. Rhythm Seekers is about promoting the power of community music making and I want this work to be accessible to as many people as possible.

Do you offer lessons?

Yes I do! I am glad to offer private or group lessons for beginner djembe. Please contact me for more information.
